Kuantan Port Consortium Sdn. Bhd. (Kuantan Port) was honoured to participate in the 7th China-Malaysia Port Alliance (CMPA) Annual Meeting held in Nanning, Guangxi, China. The event, graced by the presence of Malaysia’s Minister of Transport, YB Loke Siew Fook, marked another significant step in advancing maritime cooperation and strengthening the strategic port network between Malaysia and China.

The meeting was attended by Puan Hasnita binti Mohd Hanapiah, General Manager of the Kuantan Port Authority; Mr Hu Huaping, Chairman of Guangxi Beibu Gulf International Port Group Co., Ltd.; and Mr Chan Weng Yew, Chief Operating Officer of Kuantan Port, underscoring the strong collaboration between government agencies, strategic partners, and port stakeholders in advancing Malaysia-China maritime and logistics cooperation.

During the meeting, Mr Chan highlighted the long-standing strategic partnership between Kuantan Port and Beibu Gulf Port Group, which holds a 40% equity stake in Kuantan Port. This collaboration continues to play a pivotal role in enhancing Malaysia-China economic connectivity and supporting the broader objectives of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

He also underscored the growing importance of integrating key regional initiatives such as the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC) and the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), which are strengthening Kuantan Port’s position as a strategic multimodal gateway and enhancing trade efficiency across the region.

A key milestone of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Kuantan Port and Sinolion Wheels Technology Sdn. Bhd. on the utilisation of Kuantan Port as its primary logistics gateway. The MoU formalises Sinolion Wheels’ commitment to channel its logistics through Kuantan Port, underscoring the port’s strategic role in supporting industrial expansion, enhancing supply chain efficiency, and facilitating international trade through the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

The event also witnessed the exchange of an MoU between Beibu Gulf Port Big Data Technology Co., Ltd. and Globalcomm Solutions Sdn. Bhd., an IJM company, to explore collaboration in artificial intelligence applications. The partnership reflects a shared commitment to digital innovation and the advancement of smart port technologies, supporting the continued transformation of the logistics and maritime sector.

Since its establishment in 2015, the CMPA has served as a valuable platform for Kuantan Port to actively contribute to Malaysia-China collaboration, particularly in the areas of logistics and maritime development. Kuantan Port remains steadfast in its commitment to enhancing regional trade connectivity while strengthening its role as a critical hub in the global supply chain.
