Sekolah Angkat MADANI: Kuantan Port Celebrates World Children’s Day with Petrosains Playsmart Day at SK Sungai Ular

In conjunction with World Children’s Day, Kuantan Port proudly organised the Kuantan Port x Petrosains Playsmart Day at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Ular, as part of our Community Investment and Sekolah Angkat MADANI initiative. Held in collaboration with Petrosains Playsmart, the programme featured portable science exhibitions, interactive science show, and hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) activities for approximately 600 students from Year 1 to Year 6.

Beyond igniting curiosity in STEM, the activities introduced themes closely related to our port’s operations, including greenhouse gases, sustainability, minerals, and carbon capture, giving students early exposure to real-world applications of science and engineering. What made this programme even more meaningful was seeing every student and teacher fully immersed in the experience. For many, this was the school’s first-ever programme of this kind, offering accessible, play-based learning that sparked imagination and broadened horizons.

With the support of 30 dedicated volunteers from Kuantan Port and Petrosains Playsmart, the event ran smoothly and successfully, setting a new milestone in our efforts to create positive community impact through education. This initiative marks a significant milestone for Kuantan Port as we continue to expand our impact through education-driven community engagement.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this day possible including our volunteers, teachers, and all the enthusiastic students who filled the programme with energy and joy. Your collective spirit is what made this experience truly memorable. Kuantan Port remains steadfast in supporting the community through our Community Investment initiatives, empowering the next generation while advancing the sustainability of our operations.

Pantai Chendor Biodiversity Conservation Programme

In conjunction with World Maritime Day 2025, Kuantan Port proudly reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability and marine conservation through the Biodiversity Conservation Programme at Pantai Chendor yesterday.

As part of our Community Investment initiative, this collaborative effort brought together the Malaysian Nature Society, the Kasih Turtle Conservation Project, and over 200 passionate volunteers, including students from Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), Politeknik Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah (POLISAS), University College Yayasan Pahang (UCYP), and International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), alongside our dedicated Kuantan Port team.

The event was kicked off with an inspiring address by the Chief Operating Officer of Kuantan Port, Mr Chan Weng Yew, who emphasised our collective responsibility to protect marine life and restore coastal habitats, ensuring a sustainable future for our oceans and communities alike.

Under the theme “Our Ocean, Our Obligation, Our Opportunity”, the day saw the planting of over 3,000 mangrove trees, marking significant progress towards Kuantan Port’s pledge to plant 5,000 along Pantai Chendor’s coastline. Featuring three key species, Bakau Minyak (Rhizophora apiculata), Bakau Kurap (Rhizophora mucronata), and Bakau Tumu Merah (Bruguiera gymnorhiza), these mangroves serve as natural coastal defenders while enriching local biodiversity.

Adding to the day’s significance, volunteers collected 241.7 kilograms of trash from the shoreline during the beach cleanup, helping to restore and protect the beach’s ecosystem. In a symbolic and hopeful act, around 100 turtle hatchlings were released into the sea, representing a new beginning for these endangered creatures. Kuantan Port, in collaboration with Kasih Turtle, also pledged to protect up to 8,000 turtle eggs, including those of the Green Sea Turtle and the Painted Terrapin, a vital step in safeguarding these endangered species and ensuring their survival.

This initiative also stands as part of our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) agenda, directly supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  • SDG 13: Climate Action
  • SDG 14: Life Below Water
  • SDG 15: Life on Land
  • SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals

At Kuantan Port, we remain committed to nurturing a meaningful balance between maritime growth and environmental responsibility, helping to preserve a healthy and resilient ecosystem. Together, we envision a future where communities and nature thrive side by side, fostering well-being for generations to come.
