Following the Bridging Borders: Malaysia–Japan CCS Dialogue, Kuantan Port had the honour of hosting more than 40 delegates from various industry organisations for an official technical visit to the Port. The programme included a briefing on Kuantan Port’s ongoing development plans, operational capabilities and future-ready infrastructure, including initiatives that may support the implementation of carbon capture and storage (CCS) in line with Malaysia’s broader sustainability agenda.

Delegates were also taken on a guided site visit to both Kuantan Port 1 and Kuantan Port 2, providing firsthand exposure to the Port’s operational areas, terminal facilities, and expansion footprint. The visit enabled participants to understand better Kuantan Port’s role as a strategic east coast gateway with the capacity to support industrial clustering, logistics integration and potential carbon aggregation activities in support of the evolving CCS ecosystem.

As part of Malaysia’s strategic national infrastructure on the east coast, Kuantan Port remains committed to working alongside PETRONAS, government agencies and industry partners to support the nation’s CCS development and long-term low-carbon transition. The visit reflects the Port’s continued engagement with stakeholders and its readiness to contribute practical infrastructure solutions that strengthen Malaysia’s sustainable industrial growth and regional connectivity.

Kuantan Port recently participated in the Bridging Borders: Malaysia–Japan CCS Dialogue organised by PETRONAS and JBIC, supporting ongoing national efforts to advance Malaysia’s carbon capture and storage (CCS) development. Representing the Port, Chief Commercial Officer Mazlim Husin joined the panel session titled Alignment of CCS Value Chain, Facility Delivery & Standardisation of Design, contributing industry perspectives on infrastructure readiness and cross-sector collaboration. Kuantan Port extends its appreciation to PETRONAS for the opportunity to be part of this important strategic dialogue.

During the session, Kuantan Port highlighted the strategic role ports can play as central hubs that enable shared infrastructure, industrial clustering and efficient carbon aggregation. Supported by its established terminals, existing industrial ecosystem and connectivity to key areas including Gebeng, MCKIP, Pekan and the wider East Coast Economic Region, Kuantan Port is well positioned to facilitate the collection and handling of captured carbon from domestic industries as well as international sources. The Port also underscored the future potential of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) spur lines, which could enable emitters from the west coast to transport liquefied carbon dioxide (LCO₂) by rail to Kuantan Port, strengthening inter-coastal connectivity and supporting a more integrated national carbon logistics network. This multimodal capability reinforces Kuantan Port’s role in complementing the broader CCS framework and national implementation plans spearheaded by PETRONAS.

Kuantan Port once again brought its people together in a memorable Annual Dinner held at The Zenith Hotel Kuantan. Embracing the theme ‘A Night of Denim, A Touch of Glam’, nearly 300 Warga Kuantan Port gathered in style, blending elegance with personality through stunning denim ensembles while reconnecting and strengthening the spirit of camaraderie that defines the Kuantan Port as a whole.

The evening began with an inspiring welcoming address by Kuantan Port’s Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Chan Weng Yew, who reminded everyone that true progress is built on shared vision, resilience, and unwavering dedication. His message reflected the journey of Kuantan Port in moving forward together through challenges and triumphs, united by purpose.

One of the most anticipated highlights of the night was the vibrant Staff Talent Show, featuring five bands competing in energetic and creative performances. From powerful vocals to light-hearted comedy sketches, the stage came alive with passion and personality, filling the ballroom with laughter, cheers, and unforgettable moments.

The celebration also honoured the pillars of our organisation through the Retirement Award and Long Service Award ceremonies, a heartfelt tribute to employees whose decades of dedication have shaped the growth and legacy of Kuantan Port.

On 6 February 2026, Kuantan Port Consortium Sdn Bhd (Kuantan Port) was honoured to welcome Mr Huang Bo, Chairman of Guangzhou Port Group, and his delegation for a high-level working visit.

The delegation was received by the Kuantan Port management team, led by Chief Operating Officer Mr Chan Weng Yew. During the visit, the guests were briefed on current port operations and major infrastructure developments, and improvements to connectivity. The session also provided a platform for exchanging industry insights and technical expertise between the two maritime organisations.

Discussions focused on potential collaboration opportunities to strengthen Malaysia’s maritime gateway, including the Port-Park initiative. This approach integrates port operations with nearby industrial zones, enabling industries to operate closer to the port, improve supply chain efficiency, and support trade growth. In Kuantan, this model is already applied at the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park (MCKIP) and the Gebeng Industrial Park, each situated less than 12 km from Kuantan Port and serving key petrochemical, manufacturing, and logistics industries.

With Guangzhou Port ranked as the sixth-largest port globally, handling over 26 million TEUs in 2024, the engagement offers Kuantan Port a chance to adopt international best practices and explore mutually beneficial cooperation. Kuantan Port remains committed to building strategic partnerships that will further solidify its role as Malaysia’s key maritime link to China and the Far East.
